Hoodia Stimulate Fat Burn

Does hoodia stimulate fat burn is a common question people ask after reading or hearing about this amazing weight loss plant from South Africa.

A frenzy of media coverage has really put hoodia gordonii in the spotlight with some prominent reporters actually travelling all the way to the Kalahari Desert in South Africa to sample some of the rare and protected plant themselves to see if it worked to suppress their appetite.

Now, to be frank, to answer the question does hoodia stimulate fat burn with a yes would be misleading.

This is because hoodia gordonii plant is not a stimulant.

You see, many herbs and ingredients in weight loss pills are very strong stimulants and they work by increasing your body's metabolism. The goal with such ingredients is to increase the calories your body burns, thereby assisting in weight loss. One such herb called ephedra, which you have perhaps heard of, was banned some time ago by the FDA with much fanfare because it was actually linked to some deaths.

Such powerful stimulants can cause a more rapid heartbeat, elevated blood pressure, and other dangerous health consequences.

Hoodia with Green Tea

On the other hand, there are stimulants that can be effective but don't harbor nearly the same health risks as the very powerful stimulants like ephedra. For example, hoodia with green tea stimulant is a popular combination. Green tea naturally contains caffeine but many recent studies show it has many other health promoting properties as well, something that the chinese have known for thousands of years.

With regard to weight loss, green tea has been shown in studies to increase energy expenditure.

In the February 2000 American Journal of Obesity, the authors presented the case that green tea extract (used orally) helped stimulate thermogenesis and fax oxidation. In simple, non-scientific terms, this simply means it may assist with weight loss and fat burning.

However, in people who do not react well to even caffeine intake, even hoodia with green tea should be avoided as it can make you jittery if you are overly sensitive.

Does Hoodia Stimulate Fat Burn

Back to the question of does hoodia stimulate fat burn?

From Phytopharm pharmaceutical, the company that owns the patent rights to the active ingredient in hoodia gordonii, called P57 (for more info on this, please see: Phytopharm's hoodia gordonii):

"The large doses of extract caused a statistically significant reduction in the average daily calorie intake. In addition, a statistically significant reduction in body fat content was also observed compared to the placebo group after two weeks."

So, it seems that the extract of hoodia gordonii -- P57 -- can cause a reduction in body fat, but it does not achieve this by stimulating the metabolism.

Hoodia gordonii seems to work by suppressing the appetite, causing people to consume less, and therefore such individuals end up losing weight if they expend more calories than they now consume.

This is why a lot of other sellers of hoodia based products also add metabolic stimulators in their products, such as green tea. The theory here being that the hoodia gordonii may help suppress the appetite, causing the individual to consume less calories, while the stimulant, such as green tea, helps the body burn calories more quickly.

Whether this is actually the case or not, we can't say until studies come out...but that is the theory nonetheless.
