But they cannot claim their product itself has been proven to cause weight loss. See the difference?

That's why it's even more egregious for some companies to claim that their so called gels, or patches, or liquids will cause even faster weight loss than a so called hoodia gordonii diet pill because they shouldn't even be claiming it is proven for weight loss to begin with!

It's important to mention that this doesn't mean that some of these products don't work. Nobody knows. Maybe they do, maybe they don't. To be sure, they are allowed to sell their products as long as they don't make illegal claims.

If a product actually contains authentic hoodia gordonii in it, it presumably also contains the active ingredient in it as well (because it occurs naturally in the plant) and therefore may work by reducing the appetite.

This is why it works for the Sans Bushmen. They don't take hoodia supplements or hoodia pils. They skin the plant and then eat it.

Hoodia Pills

Now you might be asking yourself why we personally prefer hoodia supplements and hoodia pills over liquids, patches, gels, and other forms if none of them can claim they work for weight loss. (Except, of course Phytopharm, but their products won't be released for an estimated couple of years still because of further studies they are conducting).

Well, the reason is rather simple. First, in the Phytopharm study, the participants were not given liquids, gels, or patches as far as we know; they were given extracts of P57, which was most likely in a pill, capsule, or tablet form....and the study was a major success.

An an aside: keep in mind that major pharmaceutical companies that produce drugs that have to go through very expensive and intensive scientific clinical trials almost always product products in tablet/ pill form. If pills were so ineffective, why would the pharmaceutical companies make pills?

Now, back to the Sans Bushmen: they don't use liquids, gels, or patches either. We realize they don't use capsules or pills either. But if you think about it, a good quality, honest hoodia gordonii pill or capsule product is just made up of authentic hoodia gordonii plant that has been ground up or concentrated (for more info, please see our Hoodia extract page) and then encapsulated.

So, at least to us, a pill or capsule that contains ground up or concentrated hoodia gordonii is probably the closest thing on the market that you can get to what the Sans Bushmen do, short of owning and eating hoodia gordonii plant yourself. And that's not possible because the plants are not legally allowable for importing for personal growth and use. They are an extremely rare and protected species by International trade laws.

So, as we see it, if you want to use hoodia pills, use ones that are certified to be produced from genuine South African hoodia gordonii, or wait a couple of years till Phytopharm releases their anticipated products.
